To see the world through the eyes of my son…or the world as I imagine he sees…is invigorating.
It takes me to the place I always strive to be – in the present moment. Not stressin’ about what to make for dinner or what new workout regime I should do next week. Not freaking out about losing the last 10 lbs of baby weight for our family reunion in 4 months summer or cousin’s wedding in the Fall. Not shopping online constantly for our basement renovation. Just being present…
The sentiment of slowing down in life (“just being”) got me thinking about what it means to just ‘be me’ in business? About what the “business present moment” is and how to shift from ‘running’ your business to ‘being’ your business. A subtle change in theory, but one that I have seen completely change solobiz success levels overnight.
Too often, as solopreneurs we get caught up in ‘running’ the daily business necessities to maintain our current level of success – customer service, email replies, marketing, sales, IT, accounting, etc…which makes us lose sight of our BIG vision. All the time, energy and focus constantly switching ‘running’ hats throughout the day leaves us exhausted and uninspired to work on anything else, especially BIG vision development.
Making the shift from ‘running’ your business to ‘being’ your business means doing business YOUR way to consistently work toward your BIG business vision. To ensure that every day you are working on your BIG vision items and using the daily business necessities to support that vision.
I have seriously simplified how I do this through this weekly and daily routine:
- Weekly: identify my BIG business vision needs, break down into 3-5 actionable tasks (amount of tasks depends on other weekly workflow commitments)
- Daily: work on 1 BIG vision item first thing every morning, Break, work on daily business necessities throughout day with breaks
- BONUS: if time, energy and focus are left over in my day I ‘reward’ myself with more BIG business visionary work (serious mindset shift here!)
