Mammogram Controversy.

Radiation warning symbol.

You've probably heard most of it by now.  The breast cancer screening recommendations provided by the U.S. Preventative Services Task Force have been quite controversal.  You can read the full report at: http://www.ahrq.gov/clinic/USpstf/uspsbrca.htm

The highlights:

  • Women aged 40-40 years old do not need routine screenings.
  • Women aged 50-74 years old recommended screenings every 2 years.

This is an emotional topic.  One that reaches far beyond bureuacracy and hospital doors.  Now the task force is saying they 'communicated very poorly' and that women can choose to get a mammogram whenever she wants as long as it's in consultation with her doctor.  No age limit, no rations.  While most women are taking a deep sigh of relief with this clarifying news, I think it's important to read the other side to this argument.  This side that has actually linked mammogram screenings to cancer.  Yes, you read that correctly.

Here's the article I received yesterday and think it provides strong, scientific-based statistics regarding mammogram screenings actually causing breast cancer: http://www.naturalnews.com/027641_mammograms_brst_cancer.html

Now, it's not for me to decide what science is correct or 'healthiest' for you.  What I want to do though, is remind you there are other options avaiable for breast cancer screenings.  Things like regular self-examinations, digital thermographic imaging, or thermography for short.  Just giving you 'something to chew' and most importantly, provide you with the information necessary to make an educated decision.

Personally, I won't be getting one.  I get plenty of radiation throughout the day thanks to our friends wifi and cell phone.  But what about you?  What will you do?
